Snapchat, the app that brought social media Stories to life, is an exceptional platform for sharing temporary media. Among all these Stories, on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, it is difficult to remember the original creator and owner of this feature. Let’s see if you can see how and how many times a viewer has replayed your Stories.
Can people see if you replay their story?
Short answer: Snapchat lets you see your viewers, but Snapchat doesn’t let you know who reposted the story as the story owner. No one will know if you reposted a Story. However, if you replay a private snap, the other person will receive a notification of your replay.
It often happens that while browsing the full list of Stories (we all do!), something catches your eye and you replay the Story.
Therefore, as a viewer, your friend on Snapchat cannot know if you have reposted their Stories. This makes you wonder what else you can see on your viewers and if you can tell if someone has screenshotted or recorded your Story.
We’ll introduce you to Snapchat’s Story feature – how to view and restrict viewers and how to see if someone has screenshotted your story.
How to see who viewed your Snapchat Story?
You receive several notifications from your Snapchat app in your device’s notification window. For example, when someone sees your messages and starts typing them, Snapchat notifies you. However, don’t expect to receive reminders about who viewed your Story.
We all feel like we’re missing out on this feature. But it’s not that bad. It’s not like you can’t see who has viewed your Story.
Follow the following instructions to check who viewed your Story:
- Open the Snapchat app on your device.
- Tap on the circle-shaped story icon in the upper left corner of your home screen.
- See the number of viewers of your Story next to the eye icon.
Snapchat only tells you how many people on your friend list have watched your Story at least once, which we know isn’t good or satisfying. You can also see the names of people who viewed your Story and see who didn’t.
To view the names of people who have viewed your Story, follow these instructions:
- Tap on your Story to expand it to full screen.
- Swipe up to view the names of people who viewed your Story.
You can also block certain Snapchat friends from seeing your Story or create a private Story with a limited number of friends.
How to restrict the number of viewers on Snapchat
Now that you know how to see who is watching your Stories, you can customize your viewers.
You can easily sit down and post whatever you want about your personal life without fearing anyone or feeling like you’re overdoing it. Snapchat lets you customize who can see your Story and hide it from others.
Follow these simple steps to make your friends list more private and customize your Story settings.
- Tap the profile or your bitmoji icon at the top left of your home screen.
- Choose the “Settings” icon in the upper right corner of your screen.
- Look for the “Who can” section in the settings.
- Tap on “View my Story” and choose your preferred option from Everyone, Friends and Custom.
- Tap on “Custom” and hide your Story from other people by tapping on their name.
Since you know how to hide your Story, you can publish it freely without fear of being judged by colleagues, jealous friends or mutual friends with an ex.
How to check if someone has screenshotted your Story?
Transparency is the first rule of Snapchat. Snapchat instantly notifies you if a friend has screenshotted the snap you sent them. However, there is no notification for the story.
It’s easy to tell if someone has screenshotted your Story by following the instructions (given above) to view your viewers. Snapchat also provides privacy guidelines and details.
When viewing your viewers list, the person who screenshotted your story is highlighted in green and an overlaid cross (the Snapchat screenshot icon) appears at the far end right of his name.
Once you know who took a screenshot, you can talk to them if it makes you feel uncomfortable or simply remove them from your friends list. Otherwise, let it be if you don’t mind.
Endnote
The idea of Stories on all social media apps is a derivation of Snapchat’s Story feature, which is one of the main features of the app. Snapchat encapsulates the moments in a small reminder, such as a Snapchat memory, and shares it with your loved ones.
Your friends and family can view your 24 hour Story on your profile, and you have all the options to see how many people have seen it and who has seen it, but you have no way of knowing if someone has replayed your Story.
