Have you ever stumbled upon a PDF file and found images that you would like to use somewhere? But, you’re unable to save the images from the files. Well, you’re not alone. This happens to most of us, and in order to help you solve this problem, we’re here. There are several ways to extract images from any existing PDF file without resorting to complicated methods. In this article, we’ve mentioned four such methods that are easy and work like a charm. So, let’s see how.
Extracting Images from PDF Files
Some of these methods require software like Adobe Acrobat Reader and other third-party tools, while others can be done without downloading any third-party apps. They work on all platforms, such as Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
Method 1 – Using Adobe Acrobat Reader
- If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system, you can use it. This method relates to the free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. Open the required PDF files from which you need images in Adobe Acrobat reader.
- Now, once the file is open, tap on Edit in the toolbar above. In this menu, select Take a Snapshot.
- Next, navigate to the page where the image is located, then select the area you want to get as an image.
Once you’ve finished the selection, it will display a message stating that the image is copied. If not, right-click on the selected image and click Copy Selected Graphic.
- Now open the Paint application on your system, then right-click and paste the image there.
After this, you can save the image from Paint and then use it accordingly. If you wish, you can also copy it to other image editing tools and save it in the format you want. This method is great, but you can only extract one image at a time. If you have the Pro version of Adobe Acrobat, you can use the Edit PDF tool to extract images.
Method 2 – Third-party Software
By using third-party software, you can extract the images from PDF files at once, unlike the method above. Here, we’ve used PkPDF Converter which you can download for free.
PkPDF Converter
- Download, install the software, and then open it. After opening it, on the left side panel, you will see the option Choose a Source PDF File. Select it and then choose the PDF file.
- Next, under it, you will see Choose Output. Here, you can choose to get images from specific pages or all pages. And you can also select the location for the output files as per your choice.
- Once you’re done, select the Conversion tab below it. The software will take a few minutes to process and then on the right panel it will show you all the extracted images.
The images will be automatically saved in the output folder from where you can use them accordingly. There’s another software, i.e., Some PDF extractor that you can use and is almost similar. But you will need to buy the key in order to save the converted images from the PDF files.
Method 3 – Taking Screenshots
Now, if you don’t have Adobe Acrobat Reader or you don’t want to download a third-party app, you can use the screenshot method using the snipping tool on your PC. Open the PDF file, then go to the page where the desired image is located. Now open the snipping tool. Using the snipping tool, select the image or area you want to save. Just tap on New and select it. It’s that simple.
You can use the screenshot method to extract images from the PDF on Android, iOS, and all other platforms. The only thing to remember is that you may have to crop the screenshot to get the exact image you wanted to save. You can also use the following method, i.e., online tools on smartphones and PC to get the images.
Method 4 – Online Tools
We tried two online tools and both worked well. With online tools, you can extract all the images at once or in batches rather than selecting or saving them one by one. So, let’s see how to use them.
Using Extract PDF
- Here, you can upload an existing PDF file from your system or by entering the URL of an online PDF file. Just open its website and upload the file or paste the URL. After that, press the Start button and wait for the website to process the file
- It will take a few seconds and once it’s done, you’ll be able to see all the images from the PDF file under Result.
To download or save them, simply click on the image and it will start downloading or you can download all the images together in a Zip file. You can also use this tool to extract texts, fonts, and even metadata from files. This tool only supports PNG image output.
Using PDF Aid
- Here’s another online tool you can use for the same purpose. The difference between these two tools is that here, you will have the option to choose from different image formats like JPG, PNG, GIF, and even BMP. Open the website, and like above, select and upload the required PDF file.
- Then, select the image format in which you want to save the images.
- After that, press the Extract Images button on the website. Wait a few minutes.
- Then, the website will display a popup tab where it will provide you with a link on which you can right-click and select Save Link As… to save the ZIP file that will include all the images from the PDF file.
