When maintaining your Facebook profile, you may discover that some of your photo albums contain misplaced photos. You may want to know if it’s possible to move photos from one album to another. You’ve come to the right place for a comprehensive guide on how to organize your photo albums on Facebook by moving images from incorrect albums.
It’s worth mentioning that this action can be performed both from computers and from smartphones and tablets. However, this can’t be done via the official social media app for Android and iOS, and you must proceed via the browser. Not all albums permit the free movement of photos. For instance, the “Diary Photos” album, which automatically saves photos uploaded to your profile, requires extra steps. This will be discussed later in this guide.
How to Move Photos Between Albums on Facebook from PC
The process of moving photos from one album to another on Facebook is straightforward. Here’s how:
- Log into your Facebook account:
Open your preferred internet browser, navigate to the Facebook homepage, and log into your account if required. - Go to your personal profile:
Click on your name (top right) to access your personal profile page, then select the Photos tab (below the cover photo), and click on Albums. - Select the album with the images you want to move:
Find the album containing the images you wish to move, and select it. - Choose the photos:
If the album you want to transfer photos from is a default Facebook album, hover the mouse pointer over the photo you want to move, and click the album name (Diary Photos or Mobile Uploads) that appears. - Move the photo:
Locate the thumbnail of the photo you wish to transfer, move the mouse cursor over it, click on the pencil icon that appears in the upper right corner, and select “Move to another album” in the menu that opens. - Confirm the move:
Finally, expand the “Select another album for this photo” button, choose the album you want to move the selected image to, and click the “Move Photo” button to confirm.
Note: If you want to transfer the photo to a new album, select the “Create album” option, and on the next page, type the title and description of the album in the appropriate text fields. Press the “Save” button to finish.
For the “Diary Photos” album, extra steps are required. After selecting the album, move the mouse pointer over the thumbnail of the photo you want to move, click the down arrow, and select “Move to another album.” Finally, select the album to which you want to transfer the selected photo, and click on the “Move Photo” button.
Keep in mind that photos in the “Diary Photos” album are part of the Facebook timeline posts. Therefore, by moving them to a different album, they are removed from the original posts, and their privacy level is changed according to the privacy level of the target album.
Following the update to Facebook’s interface in 2020, it may no longer be possible to move photos to other albums. The instructions given are only valid if you are still using the “old” version of Facebook.
Moving Photos Between Albums on Facebook from Smartphones and Tablets
If you primarily use Facebook on smartphones or tablets, you can also move photos between albums using your mobile device. You must use a browser and not the official Facebook application for Android, iOS, or Windows 10 Mobile, which does not support the function of moving photos.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Access the desktop version of Facebook:
Log in to your account from your mobile device browser. Once logged in, call the desktop version of Facebook as the mobile version does not support the function of moving photos. - Go to your profile page:
Log in to your main profile page (tap on your name in the top right), select the “Photos” tab under the cover photo, and then go to “Album.” - Select the album:
Select the album from which you want to move photos. - Select the photos:
Tap on the thumbnail of the photo you want to move, close the enlarged version of the image that opens automatically, and tap the name of the album that appears on the thumbnail you selected earlier. - Move the photo:
Tap on the thumbnail of the photo you want to move, tap on the “Options” item at the bottom right of the larger version of the image, and select “Move to another album” in the menu. - Confirm the move:
Choose the name of the album to which you want to move the photo from the drop-down menu and confirm by pressing the “Move Photo” button.
As explained earlier, if you want to operate on the “Diary Photos” album, additional steps are required. After selecting the album in question, press the “Edit” button located in the upper right corner, touch the thumbnail of the image you want to move, press the down arrow, and choose “Move to another album in the menu that opens.”
Finally, select the target album for the photo and confirm by pressing the “Move Photo” button. As before, photos moved from the Diary Photos album, which are part of Diary posts, are removed from it and assume the privacy level of the album they are moved to.
