After Samsung and Xiaomi presented their new flagships for 2023, the Galaxy S23 and Xiaomi 13, rumors about other brands’ new star phones continue to surface. One of the most talked about phones is the new smartphone from the company founded by Carl Pei a couple of years ago, the Nothing Phone (2).
Following the CEO’s announcement at MWC 2023 that their new flagship would have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 chipset, an executive from the American manufacturer has now accidentally confirmed the exact model of the processor that the Nothing Phone (2) will have.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 confirmed for Nothing Phone (2)
According to Android Authority, Alex Katouzian, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm’s Mobile, Compute, and XR Business Unit, posted on LinkedIn congratulating Carl Pei and the Nothing team on the launch of the Nothing Phone (2) with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, revealing that this will be the chipset powering the second terminal of the London-based company.
This post was quickly rectified by removing the chipset name, but 91Mobiles managed to capture a screenshot of it before the change.
Disappointment for some, as Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was expected
It was expected that the Nothing Phone (2) would use the most advanced processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. However, it appears that the new smartphone from Carl Pei’s company won’t be as premium as expected and will compete within the affordable high-end market, where it will face off against the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, which will also be equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
