Sony has announced the release of a new software update for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) that includes 12 new features and improvements. The update, version 23.01-07.00.00, introduces some of the most requested features by users, such as the integration of the chat app Discord and compatibility with TRV for 1440p resolution.
Discord integration and other new features
One of the major features of the new update is the full integration of the chat app Discord. Although the app was already integrated into the PS5, users could not join a voice chat directly from the console. With the new update, players can now join voice chats with friends from the majority of gaming platforms, including PlayStation Network. To do this, they simply have to link their Discord and PlayStation Network accounts from the PS5, PlayStation.com, or the Discord app on Windows, Mac, or mobile.
Other new features include the ability to initiate or request screen sharing from a friend’s profile, a new “joinable” icon on group chat cards for members who are in a game that the player can join, a new “Friends Playing” tile on game hubs that allows players to see which friends are playing a game and what they are doing, and the ability to manually upload game captures to the PlayStation App.
Improved gameplay and customization
The PS5 update also includes improvements to the gaming experience, such as compatibility with variable refresh rate (VRR) for 1440p resolution. This feature ensures a more visually fluid performance when playing a game that supports VRR on a compatible HDMI 2.1 display. The update also includes improvements to the game library, including the ability to sort and filter games when adding titles to a list and using filters in the library to quickly find PS VR 2 games, among other improvements.
New accessibility features
The PS5 update also includes new accessibility features, such as the migration of saved data from PS4 to PS5, and the ability to transfer data from one PS5 console to another via a wireless network or LAN cable. There are also improvements to the screen reader, which now provides more detailed information as players navigate the console.
Updating the DualSense wireless controller
Finally, the update allows users to wirelessly update the software of their DualSense wireless controller.
The update is now available for download, and PlayStation has provided the complete release notes on its official website. The company encourages all PS5 users to download and install the update as soon as possible to take advantage of the new features and improvements.
