Have you ever come across the warning “This tweet may contain sensitive content” or “The following media may contain sensitive material” on Twitter? Well, these are tweets containing sensitive content such as violence or nudity. By default, Twitter (X) restricts any media that may contain NSFW content with a disclaimer. However, if you wish, you can allow them to appear on your feed. Here’s how to turn off the sensitive content warning on Twitter (X) on mobile and PC.

Disable sensitive content warning on Twitter

People often post images and videos on Twitter (X) to show what is happening in the world. At times, these media can address sensitive topics, including violent and adult content.

Many people prefer to avoid this type of content, which is why Twitter (X) marks them with a “sensitive content” label. The images and videos are then accompanied by a warning message which should be read before watching them. The same message appears on the profile posting the content.

However, if you are comfortable with displaying sensitive content in your feed, you can easily avoid the “This tweet may contain sensitive content” warning on Twitter. Below is how to turn it off, either on the Twitter (X) mobile app or on the web.

On the Twitter (X) mobile application

  1. Open the Twitter (X) application on your phone.
  2. Click on your profile picture at the top left to open the side menu.
  3. Select Settings and privacy, then Privacy and security.
  4. Click on the content you see.
  5. Enable the toggle switch for Show media that may contain sensitive content.

On the web or Twitter (X) desktop app

  1. Open your browser and go to Twitter.com. Log in with your account if you haven’t already.
  2. In the side menu, click on More.
  3. Next, select Settings and privacy > Privacy and security.
  4. Then click on Content you see. Disable sensitive content warning on Twitter.
  5. On this page, check the box Show media that may contain sensitive content. Remove sensitive content warning on Twitter

This operation will disable the sensitive content warning on the Twitter (X) website.

Allow media with sensitive content in Twitter (X) searches

By default, Twitter (X) hides media with sensitive content in search results. You can allow these tweets to appear in searches by following the steps below.

  1. Open the Twitter (X) website on your PC.
  2. Click on Settings and privacy > Privacy and security > Visible content.
  3. Select Search Parameters.
  4. Here, uncheck the box for Hide sensitive content.

You can follow the same steps in the Twitter (X) mobile app on your Android phone. That said, this setting is currently not available on iOS.

Remove the ‘Sensitive Content’ tag from your Tweets

From time to time, Twitter (X) may mark the media you upload as sensitive, in accordance with its policy on this matter. However, you can prevent it from doing so by changing the settings as shown below.

  1. Open Twitter (X) and click on More in the sidebar.
  2. Select Settings and privacy > Privacy and security.
  3. Click on Your Tweets.
  4. Uncheck the box to mark media you tweet as containing material that may be sensitive. Remove the Sensitive Content label from your Tweets

You can repeat the same steps in the Twitter (X) mobile app. Although the option is not yet available on the iOS version.

Note that if you regularly publish media with sensitive content, keep the option activated. Otherwise, Twitter (X) may permanently disable the option for your account.
